It's always the right time to focus on safety.
The National Safety Council observes its National Safety Month in June each year. It’s a great opportunity to focus on key initiatives that may be important to your business. The NSC has set up specific topics each week, with resources you can use to help keep safety top of mind for your team.

June 1-7 Continuous improvement

June 8-14 employee engagement

June 15-21 roadway safety

June 22-30 wellbeing
continuous improvement
Are there areas of your business that could use some improvement from a safety perspective? There are many resources available to help you communicate the importance of these common improvement areas.
- Slips, trips & falls, and recognizing hazards
- Emergency preparedness
- Technology safety

employee engagement
Safety should be part of everyone’s job, not just the EHS (environmental health & safety) leader. Get your employees engaged. When they continuously hear and see the focus on safety from business leaders, they will begin to understand its not just about the business, it’s about them.
- Hold weekly safety talks with teams – even 5 minutes on a focus area keeps it top of mind
- Share safety facts and figures – when they see other teams and individuals improving, it drives better behaviors
- Incorporate safety into your values and your culture

roadway safety
In the trucking industry, roadway safety is a no-brainer, right? You’d be surprised at the lack of awareness some drivers have simply because they become complacent.
- Create a “road to zero” mentality when it comes to safety violations and infractions on the road. A little friendly competition goes a long way in creating meaningful habits
- When it comes to drivers, be sure they understand the importance of maintaining proper drive and down time when it comes to fatigue
- Provide access to training. There are many driver safety courses available, from online or in-person courses to sharing videos and presentations
wellbeing
Prioritizing the wellbeing of your employees is an important aspect of your company culture, and makes everyone feel like they are more than just a cog in the wheel. Be sure you have a plan that extends well beyond “safety month” to make sure everyone feels better.
- Offer tools and support for mental health and substance abuse
- Provide a strong stance on workplace violence and harassment, and have a safe and non-threatening way to report incidences, should they occur
- Communicate ways to improve a work-life balance
With technicians, drivers, and all the different roles that keep our dealerships moving, Bergey’s keeps safety a priority. Safety is one of our core behaviors, and all our team members understand its importance.

ALWAYS WORK SAFE. Ensuring that everyone goes home safe is critical. Think safety first for yourself and those around you. Maintain a high level of situational awareness and proactively eliminate or avoid risks and hazards.
