Tire retread process
The commercial tire retread process is a series of steps that improves safety by ensuring only quality tire casings are used. We inspect, mechanically buff the casing to the correct radius and diameter, attach a new tread to the casing, and paint the casing before returning to you.
Join us as we walk you through the process of commercial tire retreading. From receiving and initial inspections, to buffing and skiving, to tread building and vulcanizing, we ensure quality production to provide our customers with safe, reliable and cost effective tire options.
We follow a documentation process as soon as tires come into our plant for repair, tagging them with barcode stickers that include all details of the repair for that particular tire.

Every tire undergoes an inspection to identify if it is eligible for retreading. During the inspection, a technician will determine if repairs are necessary. Tire casings with severe damage are not suitable for the process. In this event, we can return the tire to you or provide disposal (with casing credits where applicable). If a casing is eligible for retreading but a repair is required, the damage is marked and the casing moves to the next step.

The old tread is mechanically buffed away to the proper radius and diameter.

During this step, the casing is inspected and any foreign objects embedded deep in the casing, such as glass or metal shards are removed.

Common repairs include nail holes and road hazard punctures. If the casing steel and fabric are not damaged, spot repairs and section repairs can also be performed. Once repaired the casing moves to the extrusion area to apply the raw cushion gum to assist tread adhesion.

The new tread is applied to the casing after the gum adhesion process. Tread application can vary depending on if the casing is receiving a pre-cure tread or mold cure tread.

Once the tread is applied, the completed tire is put into a curing envelope encasing the interior and exterior of the tire to set it up for the volcanizing chamber.

The tire and envelope package is put into a temperature and pressure controlled chamber for a specified amount of time to fully cure and adhere the new tread.

Once removed from the vulcanizing chamber the new tire gets a final inspection, put into the pressurizer for testing and is ready to ship.
